Abstract

Dietary habits play an important role in maintaining a healthy body weight and preventing obesity. Unhealthy dietary behaviors increase the risk of obesity as well as many non-communicable chronic diseases, whereas adequate and balanced nutrition is considered one of the fundamental determinants of health promotion and disease prevention. In addition, adopting healthy dietary patterns, such as the Mediterranean and DASH diets, together with maintaining regular meal patterns and appropriate meal timing, are regarded as important approaches for supporting long-term weight management. Weight management is a multifaceted process involving nutrition, physical activity, and behavioral change, and is not solely based on energy restriction. Lifestyle interventions supported by behavioral change strategies, regular physical activity, and digital health technologies can facilitate the maintenance of healthy dietary behaviors and help individuals achieve their weight management goals. Maintaining regular dietary patterns, making appropriate food choices, adopting healthy dietary habits, and improving nutrition knowledge are important for supporting long-term weight management. In contrast, irregular eating habits and excessive consumption of ultra-processed foods may increase energy intake and negatively affect weight control. Furthermore, dietary behaviors are influenced by various physiological, psychological, environmental, and social factors, highlighting the need for individualized and holistic approaches to weight management. Therefore, promoting healthy dietary habits and adopting sustainable lifestyle behaviors constitute fundamental strategies for achieving effective weight management.
